Introductions

Post  Josh Turner on Mon Nov 10, 2008 3:13 pm

Hi everyone
Let this be the place to introduce yourself, say name, union, position, maybe a brief description of what you’re trying to achieve, though detailed campaigns should be placed in the campaigns topic.

Allow me to be the first to do so.
I'm Joshua Turner the Environmental Officer for Exeter college student's union (ECSU)
I've been in this position since the begging of the year.
I plan to get the college certified as fair trade, run a successful fair-trade fortnight and start the GO Green campaign here at Exeter.
May your time in this forum be a productive and fun one!!!
All the best
Josh

Hi I'm Fran
I am President on Newcastle under Lyme College Students' Union.
I have been on this position since the 9th of October.
Already my union are raising breast cancer awarness and also already raised some money which is getting totalled up later on today but we are having a permant charity collector in our college shop.
On Friday we are running a film star themed day for Children in Need.
People are dressing up as their favoruite film star and then donating a pund to do so and going around with collecting boxes.
We are running a movie quiz which again will cost a pound to enter and there are also prizes for the winner which the college has funded.
A member of our union is dressing up as pudsey bear and we are running a photograph with Pudsey session.
Also a face painting and temporary tattoo artist will be coming in!

Next thing we are doing is raising money for Douglas Macmillan.
The sixth form center already put on a raffle and but on a talent show and quiz etc...
This year the Union are going to come up with something different as the things above are tradtion and happen every year.

Christmas. We put on a free christmas party here which is always fun. Our college radio put on some christmas jollies =]

For the refreshers fair we are setting up all stall will goodie bags and information packs to let students know who we are etc...

Then we will be running campaigns through out the year! yay!

Hello I'm Nat...

I'm president of Exeter College Students' Union, after being the Equal Opportunities and Welfare officer last year. Last year I was in charge of Anti-Bullying week and SHAG (Sexual Health And Guidance) week. This year my responsibilities include being a governor, sitting on the Board and also 2 committees (Quality and Standards, Learner Services and Marketing).
My plans for this year include a massive welfare week, running along the lines of the Every Child Matters agenda, so each day has a theme e.g. Stay Safe, Make a Positive Contribution. We also had our RAG week in October and raised over £2000, and have various awareness campaigns throughout the year such as World Aids, Drink Awareness, LGBT etc. Our main aim is to get as many people aware and involved with the union as possible!

Hello Hello

I'm Shane, President at City College Plymouth Students' Union

Ex A-Level student, Course Rep, VP and now in my second Sabbatical term.

My priorities this year are
Learner Involvement - making sure the college is doing what the strategy says it should
Community Involvement - increasing participation in volunteer work, and in initiatives like the Youth Parliament, local residency groups and City Council decision making bodies
Fair Fees - challenging the college on its unfair charging structure for course related fees,
Celebrating diversity - last year we did ran a massive Chinese New Year Party, including all you can eat buffet! That's definately back this year.
Expanding events and activities - more trips abroad, wide choice of enrichment activities and getting proper facilities for sports clubs

There are more - but don't want to bore you too much!

Later... S
